Stella C. Koukounis graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2003 with an LL.B. with honours and followed a specialisation as a Barrister at the Nottingham Law School in 2004. Stella is a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn. In 2005, Stella extended her studies in corporate and commercial law at University College London where she was awarded an LL.M. On her return to Cyprus, Stella completed her pupillage at a well-known commercial firm in Nicosia before embarking on a career spanning 16 years, with a particular focus on the wide ambit of corporate, commercial, banking and financing law. Her clients are primarily high-net-worth groups based abroad and include private equity funds, family offices, groups of companies in the IT, Food and Beverage sectors as well as in the raw material sector. Stella has been the head of corporate of a leading corporate service provider managing a team of over 25 employees in the period 2013 to 2015, before her decision to set up her own legal practice.
Stella is acting as legal advisor to Cypriot entities having their shares and securities listed with the Cyprus Stock Exchange and the Euronext Exchange, and she has lead teams consisting of high-level professionals in various high-profile transactions including, acting as lead counsel for the refinancing of multi-million facilities with syndicated lenders, listing of securities in various EU and non-EU stock exchanges, leading the due diligence for the acquisition of commodities rich properties overseas, pre-investment due diligence and advice on the joint venture in specialised public projects etc. In 2015 and 2016 Stella received the coveted Client Choice Award for Corporate Tax, by International Law Office, an award received purely on the results of client voting. Solsidus Law received the Corporate INTL award for corporate tax in 2018.
Stella is frequently invited as speaker to international events presenting Cypriot corporate and commercial law topics. Stella served as executive director in the Board of ECM listed company Vonpende Holdings P.L.C. from 2015 until 2021 and is the managing partner of Solsidus law since 2015.
A mom of twins, and an avid reader, when she’s not advising on Cypriot law, Stella reads up on the latest trends in management and e-commerce as published by the Harvard Business Review of which she is a life-long member.
