Looking back at 2024 is both a helpful and rewarding exercise—a year rich with experiences for our legal practice. Honouring our corporate and commercial roots, we had the privilege of delving deeper into advisory law, supporting key stakeholders in their investments through Cypriot companies across sectors such as real estate, alternative energy, food and beverage, financial services, and more. One of the most exciting aspects of being a corporate lawyer is witnessing the evolution of an initial legal request—whether for a legal opinion, a due diligence report, or a new company setup—into a long-term professional relationship. It’s a relationship where your client first entrusts you with the birth and growth of their business, and ultimately, with the protection and safeguarding of their most valuable assets.
In our case, a fruitful corporate law relationship, gave us the opportunity to delve into a new area of the law, and one which comprises with very-much corporate law components, but ever so beautifully intertwined with artistic expression. In 2024 continued representing the organisers of events at a magical place. A revived, old winery, magical, not just by its seaside location, but by the way it was loved by locals for decades and long before our corporate law team was even born 😊. And just like that, we were deep into event management advice, with all that comes with it. Employment, contract, regulatory, health and safety, a wide range of legal issues that one only faces, when they’re working alongside a team of artistic geniuses (directors, event managers, band managers, engineers, marketeers) who make the impossible happen –like host the hottest, world-renowned international DJs, in our small island, Cyprus.
Many lessons were learned in 2024, indeed—chief among them, the importance of stability, which comes from maintaining a strong team. A team comprised of members who complement each other’s skills and knowledge, but also one united by a shared end goal. Each team member is an individual and should remain so, but ultimately, the vision must be shared and cherished with equal devotion. Legal services must always be delivered with a client-centric approach, a value that must be embraced by all of us.
With the rapid growth of AI, can we even guarantee that legal advice will retain the same form it had centuries—or even decades—ago? The staggering speed at which information, including legal insights, now flows is unsettling, especially for those unprepared. In an interview with Lexology last year, we cautioned, “Ignore AI at your peril.” Just 12 months later, open-source code is already replacing young coders—operating faster, with lower costs, and boasting the inconvenient quality of mathematical precision. It provides correct answers—but only if the question is right. A precarious situation indeed. Yet, it offers a glimmer of hope for those who believe that critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to emotionally connect may be the lifeboats of the future.
A massive thank you to our clients for their support, their choice, and their trust in us. We are committed to continuously improving, honouring your trust, and helping you grow in whichever direction you choose.
Let’s have a fantastic new year 2025!
